Ryan Colclough: Crewe keen for teenager to kickstart career

Crewe are looking to teenage midfielder Ryan Colclough to prove himself again after almost a year out of football.

The 19-year-old has been kept sidelined by injury for the past 11 months.

But, after being cleared in court on Friday on two counts of assault and one of harassment, he has returned to training at Reaseheath.

"It's amazing how quickly you can get forgotten in football. He has to prove to people what he's capable of," Alex boss Steve Davis told BBC Radio Stoke.

"He's had his distractions away from football and some of the off-field things have had an effect on him.

"But I hope the penny drops for him. Now he can concentrate on the one thing he is very good at, as, on his day, he's a good as we've got."

Colclough made his debut for Crewe as a 17-year-old in September 2012, since when he has scored three goals in 31 first team appearances.

Two of those goals came in the 2-1 win over Tranmere Rovers early last season, but a string of injuries have halted his progress.

Meanwhile, Crewe have extended the loan of forward Febian Brandy from Championship side Rotherham for a further month.
