QPR youngster Cole Kpekawa joins Colchester United

Kpekawa is still waiting for his first-team debut at QPR

Colchester United have signed QPR defender Cole Kpekawa on a one-month loan deal.

The 18-year-old, who has trained with the U's this week, can play at left-back or centre-half.

He is yet to feature for the R's first team, but is a regular for their Under-21 side.

"I'm happy to be here. I've been at QPR since I was eight and this is my first move away so it's a bit of a shock being here," he told BBC Essex.

"I wanted to get league experience. Sometimes you need to get out and see other places.

"Not many teams would give a defender a chance at my age."
