Victory Shield: Wales Under-16s win first outright title in 66 years

Wales celebrate their 1-0 victory in their opening game against England in Bangor

Wales Under-16s have won the Victory Shield outright for the first time since 1949 with a 2-0 victory away against Northern Ireland.

The annual tournament founded in 1925 is competed between the youth teams of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Wales who are managed by Osian Roberts, with the help of Liverpool legend Ian Rush, won all three of their matches.

They beat England 1-0, external at home and Scotland 2-1 away., external

"I'm very proud. It's a great accomplishment, great achievement by everyone," said manager Osian Roberts.

"It's an historical night. It's been a long time in coming, but it shows that the Welsh football future is in good hands and is moving in the right hands."
