Former Celtic striker Mo Bangura rejoins AIK Stockholm

Sierra Leone international Mohamed Bangura rejoined Swedish top tier league club AIK Stockholm on a two-year deal after recovering from a knee injury

The 25-year old former Celtic striker, a free agent, had trained with AIK for some time before he was signed on Friday, and is being given the option to extend his contract to a third year if he does well.

"I'm happy to move back to AIK and to meet with the fans," Bangura told BBC Sport.

"I look forward to giving my best and to win titles and hopefully play in the Uefa Champions League again."

This latest move is seen as a chance for Bangura to resurrect his career.

Bangura has not played competitive club football since his contract with Turkish second tier league club Istanbul BB was terminated in late August.

He still has to wait for the 2015 Swedish league season to commence next March before he returns to competitive action with AIK.

He joined Istanbul BB on a two and half year contract in February this year but struggled to impress, largely due to injury.

This is Bangura's third spell with AIK Stockholm. His earlier spell in the 2010 and 2011 seasons have been seen as the best phase of his career so far.

His good performances prompted Scottish club Celtic to sign him in August 2011 on the recommendation of their former Swedish striker Henrik Larsson.

But Bangura struggled, and failed to score a single first team goal.

His situation worsened after he suffered separate knee injuries which kept him out of action for lengthy periods.

The former Kallon FC hitman was subsequently loaned by Celtic to Swedish clubs AIK in late 2012 and Elfsborg the following year before he was sold to Istanbul BB where he only managed to play few matches.
