Charlton: Guy Luzon comfortable with owner Roland Duchatelet

Luzon was appointed Charlton Athletic head coach on Tuesday on an 18-month deal

New Charlton Athletic head coach Guy Luzon says he has a "good relationship" with owner Roland Duchatelet - despite previously being sacked by the Belgian.

Duchatelet also owns Belgian Pro League side Standard Liege and dismissed Luzon, 39, as their boss in September.

"When I finished my job at Standard we still had a good relationship," Israeli Luzon told BBC London 94.9.

"It shows one thing - that he appreciates my job, my knowledge and my quality."

He added: "I love the pressure - it's part of the game. A coach who can't handle pressure maybe needs to change jobs."

Luzon, who signed an 18-month deal with Charlton on Tuesday, joined Standard at the start of the 2013-14 campaign, having previously spent his whole managerial career in Israel.

Standard finished the regular season on top of the league table but missed out on winning the championship title in Belgium's play-offs.

However, the club struggled in Luzon's second season in charge and he left Liege in September, following supporter protests and with the side 12th in the table.

Duchatelet described Luzon as "an extremely talented coach" on Tuesday after appointing him as Charlton coach.

Addicks chief executive Katrien Meire said the club had received 20 applications for the job within an hour of sacking Bob Peeters on Sunday evening but that Luzon was the board's preferred choice, despite his lack of experience as a manager in England.

"It's not that we didn't want an English manager - we just saw a really good coach that was available," Meire told BBC London 94.9.

"We believe in his ability to motivate players and bring back confidence."

Luzon is Charlton's fourth manager since Duchatelet took over the south east London club in January 2014.

Chris Powell, who had been in charge of the club since January 2011, was replaced by Jose Riga last March.

The Belgian kept Charlton in the Championship but did not have his contract renewed at the end of last season and Peeters, his compatriot, was appointed in his place.

The links between Charlton and Standard Liege extend onto the pitch, as five players currently on the books at The Valley - Tal Ben Haim, Frederic Bulot, Yoni Buyens, George Tucudean and Tony Watt - have joined the Addicks from the Belgian side this season.
