Guy Luzon: Charlton Athletic appoint Israeli as head coach

Luzon has previously coached Israel's Under-21 side

Championship side Charlton Athletic have appointed Guy Luzon as their new head coach, following the dismissal of Bob Peeters on Sunday.

Israeli Luzon, 39, has been out of work since leaving Belgian Pro League side Standard Liege last October.

He has signed a contract until the end of the 2015-16 season.

Luzon takes over a Charlton side currently 14th in the Championship, 10 points off the play-off places and with one league win in the last 12.

"It is important to have a positive spirit in the team and I want to ensure the entire group is fighting together for the good of the club," said Luzon, who will take charge of the Addicks against Watford on Saturday at 15:00 GMT.

Charlton owner Roland Duchâtelet said: "I think the appointment of Guy Luzon will prove to be a very good one for the club.

"I regard him as an extremely talented coach who has already achieved a lot in his career so far.

"There were a lot of records broken during his first season at Standard Liège and they had the best defensive record in the league.

"He is a passionate coach who will give his all to Charlton and I hope supporters will get behind him."

Charlton chief executive Katrien Meire said Peeters had the support of the board "until the very last moment" but that it was important "to make sure this next appointment is the right one" having seen Chris Powell, Jose Riga and Peeters depart as manager since Duchatelet took charge of the club in January 2014.
