Bakary Sako: Wolves to wait on Mali international winger's future

Sako has scored seven goals in 26 appearances for Wolves this season

Wolves head coach Kenny Jackett says Bakary Sako's future will not be decided until the end of the season, when his present contract expires.

The 26-year-old winger, currently away on African Cup of Nations duty with Mali, signed a three-year deal when he arrived from St Etienne in August 2012.

But he will want to see which division promotion-chasing Wolves end up in next season before committing his future.

"There won't be any clarity until the summer," Jackett told BBC WM 95.6.

"His contract is up at the end of the season and it will be left until then.

"In terms of his own personal options, he's been very straight with us. His next contract is a very important one and I would not say it's not going to be at Wolves. But he'll make the decision based on the potential on us going forward and what else he can get."

Jackett made it clear, however, that he would like the French-born player to stay, having been impressed with his "fantastic" commitment in matches, and on the training pitch.

"I can only commend him on his form and his attitude," added the Wolves boss.

"There's a lot of speculation towards the end of every window, And, if the big hitters come for him he would know about it. But it hasn't happened yet and I hope he stays as long as possible."

Wolves briefly topped the Championship table on 1 November before a run of five straight league defeats.

Jackett's men currently stand eighth in the table, only a point below the play-off places, but seven adrift of the second automatic promotion spot, ahead of Saturday's home date with out-of-form Charlton Athletic.

Full-back Scott Golbourne has been passed fit to play this weekend following a foot injury that has sidelined him for the past two months.
