Fawaz Al Hasawi: Nottingham Forest owner hints at departure

Nottingham Forest owner and chairman Fawaz Al Hasawi has seemingly put his future at the club in doubt.

Al Hasawi, who sacked manager Stuart Pearce on Sunday and has been heavily criticised for the way the club have handled their finances, was answering questions from fans on Twitter.

And when asked if he would ever step down as chairman and just be the owner, he said: "I will soon from everything".

However, club ambassador John McGovern said the tweet was "tongue in cheek".

McGovern told BBC East Midlands Today: "He's committed to the cause. As far as leaving the club, there has not been a whisper to me about anything like that."

Al Hasawi, who took over in July 2012, has not posted any further messages.

The tweet followed a turbulent week at the City Ground in which Pearce was dismissed and almost immediately replaced by Dougie Freedman, and the club's finances came under intense scrutiny.

Forest were already under an embargo from the Football League because of breaching Financial Fair Play rules.

And after failing to meet the latest instalment owed to Peterborough United for £5m summer signing Britt Assombalonga, they have also been placed under a full transfer embargo.
