Cardiff City: Paul Trollope arrival gets Russell Slade's blessing

Cardiff City manager Russell Slade says the appointment of Paul Trollope to his coaching team was his choice, and was not forced on him from above.

Trollope, a former Bristol Rovers manager, has been confirmed Cardiff head coach.

The ex-Wales international was involved in his first training session on Sunday ahead of Cardiff's game with Blackburn.

"His arrival and presence moves us forward and makes us better and stronger," Slade said.

"I've known him a long time and we've had many battles with each other football-wise."

Trollope was previously first-team coach at Birmingham City and Norwich City, working alongside Chris Hughton.

During five years as manager of Bristol Rovers he guided the club to promotion to League One in 2007.

"I've come across Paul since he's been in the Championship and Premier League with Norwich," Slade added.

"He is a well respected coach and our chemistry as a group is enhanced with his presence.

"His experience will help with training and knowing the level are important factors to me."

Cardiff go into Tuesday's home game against FA Cup quarter finalists Blackburn without a win in six matches.

The Bluebirds are only six points above the relegation zone and Slade admitted they "need a lift."

Slade also revealed defender and coach Danny Gabbidon could move to Chicago Fire before the end of the season.

The Wales International played for the MLS side in a friendly against Queens Park Rangers last week.

"They're interested in his services going forward, I'm not sure how that's going to work," Slade said.

The American season starts in March and Slade has not ruled out the possibility of a move for the 35-year-old.

"It could be a possibility for him if that's the road he decides to go down. It'll be a big decision for him," Slade added.
