Junior Brown grabbed a late winner as Mansfield leapfrogged fellow League Two strugglers Dagenham & Redbridge.

The Daggers had more chances in a quiet first half, but struggled to test Stags goalkeeper Lenny Pidgeley.

However, the hosts took the lead a minute after the break through Reggie Lambe's tap-in.

Jamie Cureton equalised with his 250th career league goal but, after Mansfield had two efforts cleared off the line, Brown's 12-yard strike earned victory.

The result moves Mansfield up to 18th place in the table, one point and one place above the Daggers and five points clear of the relegation zone.

Mansfield Town manager Adam Murray told BBC Radio Nottingham:

"In these games, the pressure is built up by the media and that makes it a must-win game and a six-pointer. But we knew we had to manage the situation because it was a massive game.

"I thought it was an ugly game as it was two anxious teams that wanted points. The atmosphere was very tense - everyone was on edge.

"We went through the motions in the first half, but I asked for a response in the second half and we got what we wanted."

Dagenham & Redbridge manager Wayne Burnett told BBC London 94.9:

"I felt we were worthy of a point, two real sloppy goals to give away and you can't defend like that.

"It was a game of concentration today, and I said that the team who concentrates the best, the longest and the most intensely will win the game.

"We managed to get back into the game with a fantastic goal from Jamie Cureton - I didn't think we were under any real pressure at that point and I thought we were more likely to go on and win the game."
