Newport County players celebrate after taking the lead at Accrington Stanley

A mistake by Accrington Stanley goalkeeper Scott Davies helped gift victory to visitors Newport County.

Exiles striker Aaron O'Connor appeared to get a slight touch from a corner but the ball squirmed through Davies' arms.

Deep in time added on, Shaun Jeffers struck a second goal, turning in Ismail Yakubu's cross from close range.

The result moved Newport up to sixth in the table, boosting their bid for a League Two play-off place, while Accrington remain in 16th.

Newport County first-team coach Wayne Hatswell told BBC Radio Wales: "It was a fantastic win, well deserved and hard-fought I'd probably say.

"In a lot of areas we were man for man and we coped really well with that. We probably frustrated them in the end and I know we probably got lucky with the first goal, but the second goal was just hitting them on the break.

"We said we had to go in at half-time still 0-0 so we could have a chance of getting something in the second half, because we knew our front two and they way they work we would get something."
