League Two club Hartlepool have signed Preston striker Jordan Hugill on loan for the rest of the season.

The 22-year-old spent the last month with relegation rivals Tranmere, where he failed to score in six appearances.

Previously, Hugill had scored five times in 24 appearances for Port Vale.

"It just didn't work at Tranmere. But we've seen a lot of him and he'll go straight in and get goals for us, no doubt about it," Hartlepool manager Ronnie Moore told BBC Tees.

Although Pools have been in the relegation zone since 21 October, they have won their last three matches and now sit one point behind 22nd position with eight games remaining.

"He's obviously seen we're in form," said Moore of the Middlesbrough-born striker. "Maybe we wouldn't have got him a month ago, but I think him being a local lad has worked out well too."
