Ellen White: Theatrical Notts County Ladies free-kick a one-off

England striker Ellen White admits her theatrically worked free-kick for Notts County Ladies in Thursday's 1-1 draw against Arsenal can only be a one-off.

Following some play-fighting from Laura Bassett, who appeared to argue with Alex Greenwood as she approached to take the free-kick, the ball was worked to White who curled home from 18 yards.

"Thankfully it came off," White told BBC Radio Nottingham.

"But now we can never do it again, which is a little annoying."

The England international continued: "We have been working on things a little bit differently in pre-season. I'm pleased it went in because I've skied it over the bar and it has gone wide, but thankfully that one went in."

It was the 25-year-old's first Women's Super League goal for the Lady Magpies and came more than 15 months after she moved to Meadow Lane from the Gunners, having missed the entire 2014 season with a knee injury.

Two minutes after scoring in spectacular fashion, White missed the chance to add a second from the penalty spot after being tripped by Jemma Rose in the area.

"I'm very disappointed to have missed it by quite a lot but it is the emotion of the game," she said.

"Maybe I should have given it to someone else, but that is football. I can't really start crying about it."

White's attention now turns to England duties, with the striker poised to earn her 50th cap when they face China in Manchester on Thursday in their final home match before the summer's World Cup in Canada.
