Wrexham captain Dean Keates says he is not interested in becoming the club's new manager.

Wrexham are searching for a successor to Kevin Wilkin, who was sacked following the FA Trophy final defeat to North Ferriby United.

Caretaker boss Carl Darlington does not want the job, and has tipped Keates as a potential candidate.

"I've not applied for it. I'm on a playing contract and there's a few games left," said Keates.

"I'm just looking to contribute to those games as much as I can."

Keates, 36, and The New Saints boss Craig Harrison have been touted as possible successors to Wilkin.

Darlington, who worked alongside Harrison at TNS, is unbeaten in four games in charge of Wrexham following Wilkin's departure.

Although Darlington has backed Keates as a potential manager, the skipper himself wants to continue as a player.

"It's well publicised I'm doing my coaching badges," Keates told BBC Radio Wales Sport.

"I still feel I can contribute [as a player]. I've not put my name in the hat [for the managerial vacancy]."
