Notts County have signed versatile Exeter City captain Scot Bennett on a free transfer.

The 24-year-old came through Exeter's youth ranks and played 141 games, but he was out of contract and has signed a two-year deal with Notts, who were relegated to League Two this season.

Bennett began his career as a defender, but has featured in midfield and has also played up front.

"This is the right club for me. They are a massive club," Bennett said.

"Hopefully we can get the promotion and climb again.

"I've always wanted to get to the top and if this club can push on and do what I think they've got the potential to do, that will be a massive thing for me."
