Burton Albion have signed midfielder Calum Butcher on a free transfer after he rejected a deal at Dundee United.

The 24-year old, who was born in Essex and was a youth player with Ipswich Town, Southend United and Tottenham, has signed a two-year contract with last season's League Two champions.

Butcher said: "The team won League Two so it's already a very good squad.

"Now it's League One and everyone will want to impress in that division. It's going to be a really exciting season."

After leaving Spurs, Butcher played in Denmark and then with Hayes & Yeading before joining Dundee United in 2013.

He made 21 appearances for the club last season, scoring one goal.
