Notts County have signed former Belgium international Gill Swerts.

The midfielder, 32, who has played 17 times for his country, has agreed a two-year contract with the League Two club and will also be involved in coaching their academy players.

He was a free agent after leaving NAC Breda, who were relegated from the Dutch top flight last season.

"I have to prove myself to the fans, the team and the club," Swerts told BBC Radio Nottingham.

"I've heard that, even in League One and League Two, the competition is really hard. I'm really looking forward to it."

Swerts has spent most of his career in the Netherlands, having had two spells at Feyenoord and also played for AZ Alkmaar, Vitesse Arnhem, ADO Den Haag and Excelsior.
