Carlisle have mutually agreed to terminate Billy Paynter's contract, allowing the striker to join fellow League Two club Hartlepool.

The 30-year-old spent one season with Carlisle, scoring just two goals in 21 games for the Cumbrians.

Paynter has played more than 450 games for 10 different clubs, including Port Vale, Swindon Town, Leeds United and Doncaster Rovers.

The experienced forward is Hartlepool's seventh signing of the summer.

"We've been looking for a target man for a long time so we're pleased to get Billy in," manager Ronnie Moore told the club website., external

"He's got good experience and done well at lower league level so he's exactly what we've been looking for."
