Brighton have signed Cameroon international left-back Gaetan Bong on a free transfer after his short-term deal at Wigan Athletic ended in May.

The 27-year-old, who has played top-flight football in France and Greece, has signed a two-year contract.

Manager Chris Hughton said: "Gaetan is a player that we were aware of while he was at Olympiakos in Greece.

"He is very athletic, he is a natural left-sided player and it is important to have that balance in the squad."

Bong began his career with French side Metz and had a brief loan spell with Tours.

After a spell at Valenciennes, he joined Olympiakos in August 2013 and played in four Champions League games.

The defender, who represented his country at the 2010 World Cup, joined Wigan on a free transfer in February.
