Rotherham United have signed Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Grant Ward on a loan deal until January.

Ward, 20, had a loan spell at Coventry City last season - playing 11 times for them in League One.

The youngster has been training with Rotherham and scored against Parkgate FC and Stocksbridge in friendlies.

Manager Steve Evans told the club website:, external "I was delighted when he informed me that he has chosen us versus several Championship options."

Ward signed with Tottenham's Academy in 2011, making several reserve appearances before appearing with US side Chicago Fire.

Evans added: "There has been significant competition for the lad's signature, but we took the opportunity to have him with us for a few days.

"Grant has a big career in front of him and he now has the opportunity to make steps up the ladder with a successful loan spell."

Ward is one of eight signings by Rotherham since they narrowly avoided relegation from the Championship last season.
