Queen of the South 3-1 Alloa Athletic

  • Published

Iain Russell scored twice as Queen of the South began their Championship campaign with a comfortable win.

Derek Lyle tucked in a fifth-minute shot, with Geoff Mitchell heading wide from a good chance to level.

Russell then finished off a good move before beating two defenders to slot home his second.

Iain Flannigan pulled one back but Alloa could not make further inroads as Queens passed up several good chances to stretch their lead.

Lyle cleared the crossbar with an audacious effort from his own half and Russell twice could have had his hat-trick.
