Nick Townsend: Barnsley sign Birmingham goalkeeper on loan

Nick Townsend made 31 appearances in his previous loan spell at Lincoln City

League One side Barnsley have signed Birmingham goalkeeper Nick Townsend on a youth loan.

The 20-year-old, who has joined the Tykes until November, has yet to play for parent club Birmingham, but has appeared on loan for Lincoln City.

Townsend told the Barnsley website: "I've been very impressed with the quality of the players recruited.

"This is a remarkable opportunity for me to progress at a big club in a very competitive league."

Barnsley begin their League One campaign away at Chesterfield on Saturday.
