Wolverhampton Wanderers have signed Arsenal back-up goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez on a season-long loan.

Martinez, 22, has made eight appearances for the Gunners, including four in the Premier League.

He played eight times in a six-week loan spell in the Championship with Rotherham at the end of last season.

Martinez is set to make his debut in Tuesday's League Cup first-round tie against Newport County, subject to Football League clearance.

"We are delighted to have brought Emi to the club for the season," said head coach Kenny Jackett told his club's website., external

Emiliano Martinez: The story so far

Martinez made his Arsenal debut in the League Cup against Coventry City in September 2012.

His first Premier League appearance came last season in the Gunners' 2-1 home defeat by Manchester United in November. He has not seen any top-flight action since December.

Martinez has played in two Champions League matches - against Anderlecht and Borussia Dortmund last season.

He has represented Argentina at Under-17 and Under-20 levels.

"It is very important to have good competition among your goalkeepers, not just at the start of the season but as it progresses.

"So it is good to bring Emi in right at the start and we are looking forward to working with him."

Martinez has also had loan spells with Oxford United and Sheffield Wednesday and will provide cover for Wolves' number one Carl Ikeme at Molineux.
