Continental Cup: Birmingham City beat Bristol 2-0 for last-eight spot
- Published
Birmingham City beat Women's Super League One relegation rivals Bristol Academy 2-0 to progress to the knockout stage of the Continental Cup.
The cup tie was a precursor to a match that could decide the drop, with Birmingham returning to Bristol next week to face WSL 1's bottom club.
Jo Potter hit the bar for Blues before Coral-Jade Haines's deflected shot put the visitors in front at the break.
Aoife Mannion hit the woodwork before making it 2-0 10 minutes from time.
Bristol Academy will need results to go their way on Sunday if they are to reach the quarter-finals of the competition, with only the best two third-placed sides from the three groups going through.
