Liverpool winger Lazar Markovic has joined Turkish side Fenerbahce on a season-long loan deal.

A £20m signing from Benfica last summer, the 21-year-old is being allowed to move to aid his development and Liverpool insist he will be returning to Anfield.

The Reds will receive a loan fee from Fenerbahce.

The Serbia international made 34 appearances, including 11 Premier League starts, last season.

Despite a mixed first year at Anfield, Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers still has high hopes Markovic.

Liverpool have recently offloaded Mario Balotelli on loan to AC Milan and hope the Italy striker makes the move permanent.

But Rodgers wants Markovic to return and fulfil the promise he believed he had when he signed him.

Fenerbahce will play in this season's Europa League and have been drawn in group A with Ajax, Celtic and Molde.
