Manchester United Under-21 captain Liam Grimshaw has signed for Motherwell on loan until January.

The versatile 20-year-old's main position is in central midfield but he can also operate in defence.

Speaking to MFC TV, he said: "It's a new experience for me as I've only ever played at Manchester United.

"First of all I'll be looking to get into the side, then I'll be looking to play as many games as possible and try to improve as a player."

He added: "I've watched a few games in Scotland and know it's a good standard and can't wait to get playing."

Motherwell manager Ian Baraclough welcomed the strength Grimshaw would add to his team's midfield.

"Although he is young, he has been schooled at an excellent club and he'll add some steel in the middle of the park," said the Well boss.

"He'll compete with the likes of Stephen Pearson, Keith Lasley, Jack Leitch, Jake Taylor and some of our young talent in the Under-20s for a starting spot, which gives us some decent competition."
