Matt Taylor has scored three times for Burnley this season

Matt Taylor's late goal rescued Burnley a point at 10-man Nottingham Forest as they stayed fifth in the Championship.

Burnley's Andre Gray had a goal ruled out for offside early on when he tapped in from close range after Joey Barton's deflected shot came back off the post.

Eric Lichaj gave Forest the lead from 20 yards out, before Henri Lansbury was shown a red card for a poor tackle.

Gray shot wide from eight yards, but Taylor's long-range strike extended the Clarets' unbeaten run to three games.

Forest are now winless in five games and sit 15th in the table.

Burnley dominated the first half, with Scott Arfield wasting the best of the early chances as he fired Taylor's cross wide at the back post.

The visitors could not maintain their level of play after the break and Forest striker Nelson Oliveira came close to opening the scoring as he shot narrowly wide of Tom Heaton's goal.

Ryan Mendes tested Heaton with a powerful effort from inside the box, before Lichaj cut inside from the right and drilled a left-footed effort into the far corner from just outside the box.

Lansbury was sent off moments later, having appeared to stamp on Burnley defender Ben Mee.

Taylor's pull-back was sliced narrowly off target by striker Gray, before the midfielder's unstoppable shot earned his side a well-deserved point.

Nottingham Forest manager Dougie Freedman:

"There was no doubt it was a sending-off. Henri plays on the edge, he gives 100 per cent every game but sometimes you're going to overspill and that is what he has done.

"He has been fantastic for us and there is no blame on him at all.

"If it wasn't for the sending-off I am pretty sure we would have been comfortable winners."

Burnley manager Sean Dyche:

"It is very rare to come to Nottingham Forest and get an easy game.

"We didn't apply the detail we have done in recent weeks to get the goals and there were moments we gave the ball away too cheaply.

"We had enough chances to nick the game, but that's our 20th point in nine games and we should not forget the bigger picture."
