Preston North End striker Stevie May will miss the rest of the season with knee ligament damage.

The 23-year-old Scotland forward will undergo surgery next week.

May joined the Lilywhites from Sheffield Wednesday for an undisclosed in September on a three-year deal and had made eight appearances so far.

"We got the news back yesterday and it is not good news for Stevie, or for us as a football club," manager Simon Grayson told BBC Radio Lancashire.

"He's going to be out for the rest of the season as he has suffered ligament damage and a little bit of other damage in there as well.

"It's going to be a long, drawn out case for him with rehabilitation and it's not nice for anybody to suffer that sort of injury, especially a player who we spent a lot of money on and we're desperate to do well."
