Gillingham 0-3 Burton Albion

Burton extended their lead at the top of League One with a win at Gillingham without returning manager Nigel Clough.

Although Clough was unable to take charge at Priestfield, his side dominated throughout after Gills' Doug Loft was sent off in the first half.

Damien McCrory drilled past Stuart Nelson to open the scoring, before late goals from Lucas Akins and Anthony O'Connor sealed Albion's win.

Defeat ended Gillingham's unbeaten home record, although they remain in fourth.

Burton Albion assistant Andy Garner told BBC Radio Derby:

"I don't think we could've asked much more of them really. It was an absolutely magnificent start. To come to a difficult place, in difficult conditions; it's really quite blustery out there, but I thought from the first whistle, right to the end, we set our stall out.

"Even when it was 11 against 11 in the early stages, I thought we were on top and it's just nice to get the goals with that sort of performance. I think three goals away from home, you can't do any more than that.

"We sat there last week and thought Gillingham away, what a hard fixture that's going to be for us. But they've trained brilliantly all week and and I think they were really looking forward to the game and today they've just proved what a good side they are."
