Celtic 8-1 Hamilton: It could have been more - Ronny Deila

Celtic could have scored more goals in their 8-1 hammering of Hamilton, according to manager Ronny Deila.

The hosts were 3-0 up after only 10 minutes thanks to Mikael Lustig, Nir Bitton and Tom Rogic.

A hat-trick from Leigh Griffiths and goals from James Forrest and Callum McGregor helped move Celtic six points clear at the top of the Premiership.

"It was a great performance. It could have been much more than eight," Deila told BBC Scotland.

"In training we have looked better and better and you could see what kind of tempo we can play at if we play at our best.

"If they [Hamilton] look at themselves they will say they didn't play very well, but we were good and that's important to say."

A string of Michael McGovern saves and an Eamonn Brophy goal were the only bright notes for Hamilton.

They have now gone eight games without a win and are above 11th-placed Kilmarnock on goal difference. The defeat at Celtic Park comes after a 4-1 Scottish Cup fourth-round defeat at League Two Annan Athletic.

"From us it's totally unacceptable," Accies boss Martin Canning told BBC Scotland.

"When you concede in the second minute and then three goals in the first 10 minutes when you come to Parkhead, you're on a hiding to nothing.

"You're looking for guys and leaders to go and stand up and take a grip of the team, and no-one did that.

Canning added that Tuesday's performance was a far cry from the fighting sprit his side showed against St Johnstone on Saturday.

"One thing is for sure, our season won't be dictated by what happens at Celtic Park. No-one wants to come here and lose the way we did, but we will make sure now that as a unit we bounce back and we go again on Sunday [against Hearts].

"There won't be one person in that dressing room who won't be hurting."
