US Open champion Martin Kaymer missed the cut at the BMW International in his first event since claiming his second major at Pinehurst.

Kaymer followed an opening round of 71 with a 73 to finish on level par at Gut Larchenhof in his native Germany.

The world number 11 finished 12 shots off the halfway lead, held jointly by England's Danny Willett.

Spain's Rafael Cabrera-Bello and Pablo Larrazabal and Argentina's Emiliano Grillo were also 12 under.

Scotland's Craig Lee and Spain's Miguel Angel Jimenez were among a large chasing group two shots further back.

Kaymer's erratic second round included three bogeys and a double-bogey.

The German will be looking to become the first man to win consecutive majors since Padraig Harrington in 2008, external when he tees off in next month's Open Championship at Royal Liverpool.
