Godolphin's Farhh wins Lockinge Stakes at Newbury

Godolphin's Farhh convincingly won the Lockinge Stakes at Newbury to give the stable some good news after trainer Mahmood al-Zarooni received an eight-year doping ban.

The 100-30 shot, trained by Saeed bin Suroor and ridden by Silvestre de Sousa, won by four lengths from Sovereign Debt and Aljamaaheer.

Declaration Of War, the 5-4 favourite, fell away to finish fourth.

Earlier, Bin Suroor also won the Aston Park Stakes with Willing Foe.

Farhh picked up the pace impressively over a furlong out and held on to clinch a clear victory and give the trainer his fifth win in the Group One race.

Godolphin's racing manager Simon Crisford said: "It's fantastic, particularly after all the problems we have had in the last few weeks.

"Obviously Saeed is nothing to do with that issue but he has put us back into pole position. It's important - a great boost to the stable."

Farhh's victory comes after the five-year-old colt twice finished second to Frankel in Group One events last season.

Brazilian De Sousa, riding his first Group One winner in Britain, said: "He definitely deserved to get his head in front.

"He did it in great fashion and travelled so sweetly. He got a bit lonely and I had to give him a slap behind the saddle, but he won very handily and will come on for the run."

De Sousa got the ride after Frankie Dettori, who rode Farhh in his last five races, split from Godolphin after receiving a six-month drugs ban. Dettori rode the horse on day he tested positive for cocaine.
