Golden Horn is 'best horse in world' after matching Frankel mark

Golden Horn is set to be rated as the best horse in the world after completing a unique treble with victory in the Eclipse Stakes at Sandown.

Saturday's triumph saw the John Gosden-trained colt become the first horse to win the Dante, Derby and Eclipse.

He has been rated at 130 by the British Horseracing Authority, putting him in an elite band of three-year-old horses.

If international handicappers follow suit, it will make Golden Horn the world's highest-rated horse this year.

The ratings are expressed in the equivalent of pounds in weight.

Golden Horn, the winner of all of his five starts to date, is rated two pounds ahead of US Triple Crown winner American Pharoah.

"Since 1996, the only other British-trained three-year-old to post a performance of 130 has been Frankel," said British Horseracing Authority's head of handicapping Phil Smith.

"I would be disappointed if Golden Horn cannot go on and prove himself better than 130 as the season progresses."

Frankel was retired in 2012, ending his career with 14 wins from 14 races.
