Ice Hockey World Championship: GB fight back to beat South Korea

Great Britain came from two goals down to beat top seeds South Korea 3-2 and remain on course for gold in the third-tier Ice Hockey World Championships.

Goals from Nottingham Panthers forward Robert Farmer reduced the deficit in the second period, before Ben O'Connor equalised on the power play.

O'Connor won the game with a penalty shot to leave GB top of Division 1B, knowing two wins will guarantee gold.

They face the Netherlands on Saturday before they play Lithuania on Sunday.

Only the group winners will be promoted to Division 1 Group A. The two top teams from that group will be promoted to the championship division, which features the best 16 teams in the world, split into two groups.

"It was a huge win for Great Britain and this team appears to be growing in confidence with every game. Trailing South Korea 2-0 after 21 minutes the players never wavered in their belief they could come back as they did against Croatia earlier in the tournament.

"Ben O'Connor's two goals grab the headlines, especially the nature of his second. To pull that kind of move on a penalty shot showed jaw-dropping poise. He leads GB with three goals here in Holland but I am sure he will tip his hat to the work ethic of his team-mates which has allowed him to shine.

"Finally in his first international tournament in charge of the senior men's team, Pete Russell is revelling in the role. He has not been frightened to tinker with his line-up and tactics during games. That is a huge reason why Great Britain sit undefeated after three games and are now just two wins away from winning a gold medal."
