Chaz Davies is confident he can compete in Superbikes

Herefordshire motorcyclist Chaz Davies has confirmed he will be riding for Ducati in World Superbikes next season.

Davies told BBC Hereford and Worcester he had been considering his options and felt this was the best move for him.

"Everything came together really quickly over the space of a week between my team and Ducati," he said.

"As soon as my boss Giuliano Rovelli came up with a package that met my technical needs, it was quite a plain sailing decision for me after that."

The 24-year-old was at his most marketable after winning the World Supersport Championship but added he had to be confident in his new team's ability to compete.

Davies said: "It's really important that you go through everything and I made a list myself of what I think needs to be looked at.

"It is pretty difficult at the moment as the economy is what is holding most teams back.

"It is important that you save money where you can but, at the same time, you can't scrimp on the important stuff because that's what wins races."

Davies says he has received all the assurances he was looking for and is confident the team will have both the budgets and the technology to challenge next season.

"Suspension was a big deal for me and we have managed to get some of the best suspension that is out there," he added.

"Electronics technicians are really important as are chassis technicians.

"The one guy in our team won five world titles with Ducati and was with them for nearly 20 years.

"We are going to have the guys who were really sharp in my team this year so I think we are going to have one of the tightest teams next year."
