England held off a spirited challenge from South Africa to win their opening Tri-Series game in Port Elizabeth.

England edged the first quarter 13-12 and stretched their lead to 25-18 at half-time despite 17 turnovers.

South Africa recovered in the third quarter to reduce the deficit to three, but England, who won September's series between the teams 3-0, upped the tempo to win 49-39.

England play their second match, against Trinidad & Tobago, on Friday.
