Great Britain's Jenna Randall and Olivia Federici gave their chances of reaching Tuesday's Olympic synchronised swimming final a huge boost with ninth place in the first day of competition.

The pair registered a score of 88.100 after the duet technical preliminary.

With 12 of 24 going through, a similar performance in Monday's free routine will ensure their progress.

Russian defending champions Natalia Ishchenko and Svetlana Romashina lead after a score of 98.200.
