Olympics: Barbora Spotkova claims javelin gold

Barbora Spotakova of the Czech Republic took Olympic gold for the second successive games with 69.55m.

The 31-year-old world record holder led from her first attempt before extending her lead with her best throw of the season in round four.

German Christina Obergfoll went one better than in Beijing four years ago to take silver, with her compatriot Linda Stahl taking bronze.

Britain's Goldie Sayers failed to qualify for the final due to injury.

Sayers, 30, had been suffering from an elbow injury that flared up again in the warm-up at the Olympic Stadium on Tuesday, forcing three no throws.

Defending champion Spotakova was also the best performer in the qualifiers, external with a throw of 66.19m, while world champion Mariya Abakumova of Russia was seventh of the 12 qualifiers, recording 63.25m.

She didn't fare much better in the final finishing 10th with a best throw of 59.34m.
