London Broncos sign Ben Ross and Denny Solomona

London Broncos have completed the signings of experienced Australian prop Ben Ross and winger Denny Solomona.

Former Cronulla Sharks front row Ross, 33, had announced his retirement at the end of the 2013 NRL campaign.

He has made six State of Origin appearances and has had spells at St George Illawarra Dragons, Penrith Panthers and South Sydney Rabbitohs.

Solomona, 20, was released from his contract with NRL side Melbourne Storm to allow him to move to Super League.

Auckland-born Solomona, who can also play at full-back and centre, scored 13 tries in 16 appearances for the Storm's Under-20 side last year.

London Broncos head coach Tony Rea said it was fairly simple to coax Ross, who made 173 appearances in the NRL, out of retirement.

"He retired, but the word going around Australia was that he didn't really want to," Rea said.

"We made a phone call and it was the easiest deal we've ever done.

"The guy was so hungry to keep playing. He's a meat and potatoes prop who will drive you forward and gets all his jobs done."

Meanwhile, Rea said Solomona was a "talented individual" who had made a "brave" decision to move to Super League.

"He's been sitting behind Billy Slater, as his understudy at Melbourne," Rea said.

"This is a way of putting himself out on his own stage.

"He had a contract at Melbourne, which he left to join us, and had the full support of Melbourne and the Broncos to do that."

Ross and Solomona are the Broncos' seventh and eighth new additions to their squad this week.

Hull KR back-row forward George Griffin, former England hooker Scott Moore and Tonga international full-back Nesiasi Mataitonga have all signed deals, while James Duckworth, Alex Foster and Thomas Minns have joined on loan from Leeds Rhinos.

Broncos also announced on Monday that they had retained 12 senior players.
