Huddersfield Giants forward Brett Ferres has been given a five-match ban after being found guilty of a Grade E dangerous throw on St Helens player Jonny Lomax on Sunday.

England player Ferres was sent off for the tackle in the Giants' 17-16 loss.

The 27-year-old, who pleaded guilty at a Rugby Football League disciplinary tribunal on Tuesday, has also been fined £300.

Second-row Ferres has been an ever-present for Huddersfield this season.

In a statement Ferres said: "I would just like to publicly apologise to Jonny Lomax for the incident that occurred on Sunday.

"I would never intentionally put someone in a position that could potentially injure them.

"There was no intent or malice in the tackle and I am glad that Jonny is ok.

"I have accepted my punishment and hopefully we won't see any more incidents like this in the game."
