Man of Steel: Peacock & Clark favourites, says Crabtree

Peacock is only the third player to win Leeds' Player of the Year award three times, following Iestyn Harris and Kevin Sinfield

Leeds Rhinos veteran Jamie Peacock should be considered a favourite to win a second Man of Steel honour, according to Huddersfield prop Eorl Crabtree.

Peacock, 36, was included in Super League's Dream Team for a 10th time and won Leeds' Player of the Year and Fans' Player of the Year awards this week.

"Two main candidates for me are Jamie Peacock and Daryl Clark," Crabtree told BBC's Super League Show.

"'JP' is getting better with age. He is playing out of his skin at the moment."

Peacock, who was previously voted Man of Steel while playing for Bradford Bulls in 2003, was beaten to the the British game's highest individual honour in 2013 by Huddersfield captain Danny Brough.

In a season in which the prop has surpassed 500 career appearances, Peacock has again proved himself as one of Super League's most damaging forwards and is the fourth highest metre-maker in the competition, coming up with the most carries this term.

Castleford boss Daryl Powell believes the former England captain faces a tough challenge for the prestigious award from three players in his Tigers squad, including hooker Clark, who was also named in the Dream Team on Monday.

"Looking at our team, Daryl Clark and Michael Shenton have been superb and so has Andy Lynch," said Powell. "There are some outstanding candidates in the Dream Team."
