Former Wigan and Huddersfield stand-off Kevin Brown marked his 300th career appearance by scoring two tries and setting up four others against Wakefield

Widnes captain Brown, who became the club's first ever representative to be named in Super League's Dream Team when he made the cut last season, was quick to emphasise his influence for the Vikings as he returned to action after suffering concussion in the opening game of the season.

With his first meaningful contribution the 30-year-old put a neat grubber kick in behind the Wakefield defence, which Mellor pounced on after Tim Smith failed to deal with the danger.

Brown then showcased some slick finishing to cross for his first score, and Aaron Heremaia sent the stand-off over for a deserved first-half double after White had darted over for Widnes' third effort on 24 minutes.

Tickle, who landed three of his four conversions before the break to notch up 100 career points for Widnes, added a penalty kick to make it 24-4 at the break after Owen hit back for Wakefield following Riley's intercept and 80-metre run.

Ah Van started and finished off the move for Vikings' fifth try after the break, coming up with an intercept before powering over the line.

White ran in his second try of the game under the posts after swapping passes with Brown, and the hooker linked up with Gil Dudson to touchdown again. He added the extras to open a 36-point lead before Ryan and Riley ran in two Wakefield tries in three minutes.

Ah Van juggled the ball before dotting down his second of the day then put Clarkson over, before White got on the end of a Brown kick, which Wakefield again failed to read.

Widnes Vikings head coach Denis Betts:

"Lloyd is a sensational player, but has never really had a good run of games. He suffered an elbow injury in a pre-season game at Castleford, but to put a marker down like that on his comeback is really satisfying.

"If he keeps developing like that he will be very special.

"We showed today we are a decent rugby league side. "I expected that sort of performance.

"Kevin Brown's kicking game was fantastic and he guides us around and is a team player."

Wakefield Trinity Wildcats boss James Webster:

"That was not the standard of a first-grade rugby league team by a long way.

"We were outfought and outmuscled for 80 minutes and there was only one side playing.

"We failed to turn up and we got what we deserved."
