St Helens have signed full-back Shannon McDonnell until the end of next season.

The 27-year-old Australian played three games for Super League champions Saints in 2014 before he fractured his jaw and moved to Sydney-based Wests Tigers.

McDonnell has had spells at Hull KR and Hull FC and also played for the Exiles.

"It's clear with Jonny Lomax out for the season and Paul Wellens sidelined we need cover at full-back, as well as in the backs," Saints chief executive Mike Rush told the club website., external

"Shannon can cover a number of positions.

"He did a great job last season and we look forward to welcoming him to St Helens once again."

McDonnell started his career at the Tigers in 2005 and also played for Newcastle Knights in the National Rugby League.

At the start of 2012, he moved to Hull KR before joining their rivals at the KC Stadium the following year.
