Wakefield Trinity Wildcats have dropped Kevin Locke, Reece Lyne and Tim Smith pending the outcome of an internal investigation.

Scrum-half Smith, 30, was charged with failing to provide a sample for analysis and driving without due care and attention after an incident in Hull earlier this week.

It is thought full-back Locke, 26, and centre Lyne, 22, were with him.

The Wildcats face Halifax in The Qualifiers on Saturday.

Wakefield are fourth in the middle eights after winning two of their five matches and need a victory to keep their hopes of securing automatic Super League survival alive.

The teams finishing fourth and fifth in The Qualifiers will play-off for the final place in the top flight.

Wakefield chairman Michael Carter said: "The investigation is ongoing. Hopefully it will come to a conclusion by early next week."

Smith has been bailed to appear before East Yorkshire Magistrates Court later this month.
