Rob Cook's late penalty saw Cornish Pirates overcome Nottingham 26-24 in the Championship.

Pirates trailed 17-10 at half time with Blair Cowan's 39th minute try keeping them in touch after Alex Lewington and Tim Streather's tries.

Another Cook kick and a Grant Pointer try put Pirates 18-17 up before Sione Kalamponi got the visitors back ahead.

David Doherty's unconverted try put Pirates within a point before Cook's 68th minute penalty sealed the win.

"We actually played some rugby today," Pirates boss Chris Stirling told BBC Radio Cornwall.

"The guys worked really hard and I'm really proud of them.

"I said to them in the post-match huddle that this is the stuff that sets you up for later on in the season, it's nice to see them smiling," he added.

The win sees the Pirates go fourth in the Championship while Nottingham stay seventh.
