Plymouth Albion face 'biggest game in club history' against Esher

Plymouth Albion head coach Nat Saumi says Friday's Championship relegation play-off with Esher is the most important match in the club's history.

Albion began their fight for survival with a 41-17 last month.

"I think to put it in the simplest way, it's the biggest game for this club in its history," Saumi told BBC Sport.

"We have to win, we're going to have to win all our home games."

Albion have had a season to forget, with financial problems off the field and three different men at the helm on it.

The club sacked chairman of rugby Graham Dawe in November and replaced him with former exeter boss Pete Drewett.

But Drewett lasted just a month before the money for him dried up Saumi given the job.

And the former Fiji international says the club's professional status is at stake.

"Everyone knows how serious it is," Saumi says.

"For the players, for most of them, if they think about that they know no-one will have a job next season.

"We've got to win this one, it'll give momentum to stay in the Championship."

Despite suffering five consecutive defeats, including losses to all the sides they face in the relegation play-off, Saumi is still confident his team can perform.

They led for much of the match at Moseley last week before going down and Saumi is confident his squad can turn their form around when it matters.

"It's been basic errors that have cost us points this season, we've talked so much about eradicating those mistakes this week.

"The points are there to be taken, we've been playing well but we've got to finish it for 80 minutes.

"Relegation is not in our minds because we know we are a better team and we should be staying up in the Championship."
