Bath's Brad Davis prepared for new role as backs coach

Bath coach Brad Davis is looking forward to his new role at the club following a backroom reshuffle.

Davis, 44, has held a variety of jobs since joining in 2006, external and will take a new title under head coach Gary Gold.

"My role is predominantly going to be with our kicking strategy and our attacking game coming from our own half of the field," he told BBC Point West.

"There is also the backs and the first phase and all their skills work which I'll be heavily involved with."

The Australian initially moved to the Rec as defensive coach,, external but has since spent time as a specialist skills and an assistant coach.

Davis never played rugby union, but spent 14 years in league as a player with Nottingham, Huddersfield, York, Wakefield and Castleford., external

Having worked under former coaches Steve Meehan and Sir Ian McGeechan, Davis believes his new position in Gary Gold's team can help him develop as a coach.

"Once you've been doing a certain job a long time you feel comfortable with that job, you have a great understanding," he added.

"It's going to take me out of my comfort zone which I see as a positive thing.

"I can put a lot more time into the backs this season, which will be exciting, and if there was one criticism from us last year it's that we weren't dangerous enough on our first phase attacks.

"There's a lot of overlap and with the amount of experience in this group I'm sure they'll be some tasty conversations throughout the season.

"We probably spread ourselves too thin last year and that probably showed with the results on the field.

"It won't be the case this season, if there is one thing Gary is, it's very thorough and everything will be measured.

"It's an exciting time for everyone at Bath and I'm sure once we get into the thick of it, it will interesting times."
