Olly Morgan: Gloucester full-back out until next season

Olly Morgan receives medical attention in the game against Worcester Warriors

Gloucester director of rugby Nigel Davies has confirmed injured full-back Olly Morgan will not return to action this season.

The 27-year-old was initially ruled out for six months after damaging his knee ligaments against Worcester in January.

An infection has delayed his recovery and now Davies does not expect to see Morgan playing until 2013.

"It's been a long time and it's been a heartache for him," the Gloucester boss told BBC Points West.

"We're taking it steadily and we've got a plan that we are putting together for his recovery.

"He's walking and will soon be jogging. It's then a matter of identifying how much movement he's got in the knee, as that's crucial in terms of being able to reach top-end pace."

Capped twice by England, Morgan signed his first professional deal at Gloucester in 2004 and has gone on to make 131 appearances.

He is contracted at Kingsholm until the summer of 2015.
