Scotland: Jonathan Humphreys appointed forwards coach

Former Welsh hooker Jonathan Humphreys has been appointed Scotland's forwards coach.

Humphreys, 44, joins the Scotland squad ahead of the summer tournament with Samoa, South Africa and Italy in June.

He earned 35 caps for Wales and has been forwards coach at Ospreys since 2006.

"He's a very astute coach," said Scottish rugby chief Mark Dodson. "When you look at the players he has nurtured then clearly he has much to offer."

During his time at Ospreys, they won the most league titles in celtic rugby history, having won the RaboDirect PRO12 and its previous incarnations on three occasions and also winning the EDF Cup.

"I'm very excited by the challenge of working with the Scotland players and management and building on the very solid foundations that are in place," said Humphreys after signing a two-year contract.

"I know (Scotland coach) Scott Johnson well from our time together at the Ospreys and it will be great to renew acquaintance with a man who has such a sharp rugby brain."

Former England number eight Dean Ryan, who joined Johnson's backroom staff as forwards coach for Scotland's last Six Nations campaign, has joined Worcester Warriors as their new director of rugby.
