Lock Alun Wyn Jones is ruled out of the Wales side to face France in the Six Nations clash in Cardiff on Friday.

The British and Irish Lions second row is out because of a foot infection.

The Ospreys captain is replaced by the Scarlets lock Jake Ball, who will make his first start for Wales, and he will partner Luke Charteris in the second row.

"It is a big blow for us," said Wales coach Warren Gatland about the loss of second row Jones.

"Not sure really what happened, he ran in the captain's run, went back to the hotel and his foot doubles in size.

"He has had his bloods done and a scan and hopefully its not too long [he will be out]."

Newport Gwent Dragons skipper Andrew Coombs, who was dropped for the French clash, replaces Ball on the bench.
